Owl lovey + Free Pattern by Soulful-Creations Owl lovey + Free Pattern by Soulful-Creations

{EDIT 18/08/2016} I found a mistake in the pattern, but I fixed it now. :)

Owl Lovey; Free Pattern:

Needed:
White yarn for the eyes
Colored yarn for the body and lovey
Orange yarn for the beak
10mm safety eyes
3mm crochet hook
Stuffing

Abbreviations:
sc = Single Crochet
dc = Double Crochet
sl.st = Slip Stitch
BLO = Back Loop Only

Owl Eyes (make 2)
R1. 6sc in magic circle
R2. sc2 in each sc
Cut a long end of the yarn, but don't weave it in.

Owl body
R1. 6sc in magic circle (6)
R2. sc2 in each sc (12)
R3. BLO *sc1, sc2 in next sc* x6 (18)
R4. *sc1, sc2 in next sc, sc1* x6 (24)
R5. *sc3, sc2 in next sc* x6 (30)
R6. *sc2, sc 2 in next sc, sc2* x6 (36)
R7-17. sc1 in each sc
Attach the safety eyes to the white eyes and attach these to the body on between row 10 and row 16.
Sew the eyes to the body with the tail you left long earlier. This is to prevent the eyes from curling up.
R18. *sc2, dec, sc2*x6 (30)
R19. *sc3, dec* x6 (24)
R20. *sc1, dec, sc1* x6 (18)
embroider an upside-down triangle between the eyes with the orange yarn to create the beak.
Stuff the owl softly (it's a baby toy, so it doesn't have to be firm)
Push the front and back of the owl together and make sure you go through both the front and back to close the owl with the following:
sc5 in next sc, sc7, sc5 in next sc

Lovey
Crochet a granny square, you can choose how big you want it to be.
Make sure the tail at the beginning is long enough to sew the finished granny square to the owl
For the schell edge this is what you do: (I had 8 holes, so 8 shells)
Go to a corner, but put a sl.st in the 2nd dc before the corner starts.
sc in the same stitch, skip 1 dc, 6dc in the corner,
*skip 1 dc, sc in 1 dc, skip 1 dc, 5dc in hole* x8
skip 1 dc, sc in 1 dc, 6dc in the corner
*skip 1 dc, sc in 1 dc, skip 1 dc, 5dc in hole* x8
skip 1 dc, sc in 1 dc, 6dc in the corner
*skip 1 dc, sc in 1 dc, skip 1 dc, 5dc in hole* x8
skip 1 dc, sc in 1 dc, 6dc in the corner
*skip 1 dc, sc in 1 dc, skip 1 dc, 5dc in hole* x8
skip 1 dc, sc in 1 dc, 6dc in the corner
skip 1 dc, sl.st in the stitch you started with
Cut the yarn and weave in the end
Sew the granny square to the owl. The round with visible front loops is there to make the sewing easier.

The best part is that it's just 1 skein. :D
